We’ve been using BJU Press Distance Learning curriculum for several years now and each child has grown to love one or two teachers over the years. They also have a favorite course that holds fond memories for them.

I thought it would be fun to ask my kids what their favorite BJU Press Distance Learning courses have been over the years so that I could share them with you. So here you go! Five Knutson kids share their BJU Press favorites.
Favorite BJU Press Distance Learning Courses
My kids readily admit that their favorite courses correspond with their favorite subjects and not one of the five kids I asked likes English. Sorry Mrs. Walker. They really do enjoy your reading courses and you do such a great job of making them fun but it still falls under English.
Here are the courses that my kids have fond memories of:
Life Science and Earth Science with Mrs. Gillenwater
My 15 year old daughter said that her favorite courses were the middle school science classes she took with Mrs. Gillenwater. She couldn’t decide which course she liked best, Life Science or Earth Science, so we will call it a tie and include them both here. Mrs. Gillenwater’s enthusiasm for a subject that my daughter didn’t even like brought science to life for my daughter. I love that her favorite BJU Press course is from a subject that she doesn’t usually enjoy. That’s how you know you’ve found a great course!
(I reviewed both middle school science courses in this video and did a more in-depth review of Earth Science in this blog post.)
Heritage Studies 5 and Science 5 with Miss Ingersoll
Fifth grade was a favorite year for my current 13 year old. When she looks back on that homeschool year, she remembers the fun classes she took with Miss Ingersoll. Honestly, all of my kids enjoyed watching the Heritage Studies 5 and Science 5 lessons because Miss Ingersoll makes learning so enjoyable!
Wondering if your 5th grader might enjoy Miss Ingersoll’s teaching as much as my daughter did? Check out these sample videos of Heritage Studies 5 and Science 5!
Heritage Studies
My 11 year old son doesn’t care who taught the class, he just loves all of the BJU Press Distance Learning Heritage Studies courses. I really appreciate how BJU Press has made history come to life for my son. I opted for another history curriculum this year and while he has enjoyed it, he tells me often that he is so excited to go back to BJU Press Heritage Studies next year.
Science 2 with Mrs. Overly
Who doesn’t love Mrs. Overly? She teaches a lot of subjects but Science 2 was my 9 year olds favorite BJU Press Distance Learning course. She said it was really fun and exciting. I actually found her replaying many of the lessons in her free time.
Mrs. Overly and the team over at BJU Press did a great job of updating this video course for 2nd graders. It is engaging, informative and loads of fun! Check out a sample video and see if your child might enjoy Science 2.
K5 Math with Mrs. Rulapaugh
My 6 year old hasn’t taken too many BJU Press Distance Learning courses yet but he wanted to chime in when I was asking everyone else about their favorites. He said he loves K5 math and that Mrs. Rulapaugh is “a nice, fun teacher.”
I couldn’t agree more! K5 Math is a great option for kindergarten math. Mrs. Rulapaugh has a gift for teaching younger children. She keeps my son engaged while moving through the material at just the right pace for a 5 year old. Watch one of the K5 math lessons here.
Clarification from my Kids
My kids wanted to make it clear that while the above courses were their favorite, they still love many of the Distance Learning teachers that taught other courses.
They wanted me to point out that any course taught by Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Overly, Mrs. Lawson or Mr. Harmon is going to be good. These teachers can make any subject enjoyable and my kids have definitely benefited from their instruction over the years.
