As my children move into the upper grade levels, I like to ask them for their input on homeschool curriculum. I usually select two to three curriculum choices per subject for them to consider. We discuss the options and come to a decision on the curriculum choices together. This gives them a feeling of ownership and excitement toward the classes they are taking.

This year my 8th grader and I chose to go with the 8th Grade BJU Press Distance Learning Online kit. We added in a few other things as well that I thought would be beneficial for her this coming homeschool year.
8th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices
The BJU Press Distance Learning grade kit covers writing, grammar, literature, history, science, and math. We added in Bible, vocabulary, and a states and capitals workbook for review.
Bible
English
- BJU Press Distance Learning Writing and Grammar 8
- BJU Press Distance Learning Excursions in Literature
- BJU Press Vocabulary Level B
History
Note: The BJU Press American Republic curriculum is a complete curriculum. I am only adding in the Memoria Press States & Capitals because her younger siblings are going through it and we thought it would be a good review for her and a fun opportunity to learn alongside her siblings. Sometimes my older kids miss the group learning we use to do.
Science
Math
Each course, purchased individually, can add up which is why I like the grade kit option. The grade kit option allows you to customize your kit by going up or down two grade levels with two different subjects. It also lets you add Bible and a foreign language to your kit as well.

Why aren’t you using Omnibus II? I thought you guys really liked it.

Great question. Yes, we loved Omnibus! It was a consideration for my upcoming 8th grader but different child and different circumstances led us to other options. It is always a strong competitor when I am choosing curriculum just didn’t fit what we needed this year. đŸ™‚
