I want to use BJU Press for grammar and Structure and Style for Students writing. Is that possible or would it be too much work since BJU covers both grammar and writing?
Janelle Knutson says
You can use BJU for the grammar and skip the writing sections in BJU. Then add in SSS from IEW. We did something similar this year for my 8th and 10th graders. We used BJU for grammar and literature, skipped the writing assignments in BJU English and did Structure and Style for Students instead. It costs more since you are buying 2 English curriculums but we found it to be a great solution for us.

Hi, I’m trying to decide between BJU English and EIW for my second grader. Would BJU be a better choice if I’m wanting it to cover bother grammar and writing? Why did EIW not make your top 3 choices for grammar?
Janelle Knutson says
Hi Chelsie! Great question. EIW didn’t make my top three grammar choices because I have not used EIW for the lower grades (which are the ones that include grammar). I personally prefer BJU English for elementary age especially their 2nd grade English curriculum!
