You’ve purchased your homeschool curriculum and gathered your homeschool supplies. Now it’s time to plan out your school year, figure out a way to keep your kids on track each day, and find a way to organize all those homeschool records.

Getting organized doesn’t have to be complicated! Let’s look at some resources that can help you stay on track and homeschool successfully.
Homeschool Planners
There are quite a few homeschool planners on the market these days. Most of them include space for weekly lesson plans. Many of them have pages for planning out your school year schedule and keeping track of important information.
Just do a search for “homeschool planners” and you are sure to come up with a long list to choose from. There are even digital planners available for homeschoolers. Even with all the options, I still struggled to find one that fit my family’s needs. With a growing number of kids to homeschool, I needed space to lesson plan for multiple children. That’s why I created my own weekly lesson plan sheets with space for up to five children.
I also needed a way to plan the school year and keep track of important information, so I created some homeschool planning sheets to help me keep track of everything. I keep it all stored in my Homeschool Mom Binder for easy access.
Resources to Help Kids Stay on Track
Once you have all your homeschool planning organized, it’s time to figure out a way to keep your kids on track each day.
The first resource that I want to share with you is the Workbox System. This has worked well for my younger children. Their daily school work and supplies are organized and easy to access. They know what subjects they need to complete each day and can visually keep track of their progress.
If the workbox system takes up too much space, you might try these Tasks Cards from my friend Jamie. They are a visual way to keep your kids on task.
As my kids outgrew the workbox system, I moved them over to a simple checklist. They enjoyed using stickers or stamps to mark-off when they had completed a subject. You can watch this video to see how I used a simple checklist along with my binder system to help my 1st grader work more independently.
As my kids got older, we began using My Student Logbooks. These logbooks can be used as a checklist or to keep track of grades. My Student Logbooks have been a staple in our homeschool for many years which means I have shared about them on multiple occasions. You can find out what we love about them, how I set them up (with a video), and how easy they are to update if things change during your school year.
Record Keeping Systems
Next up is a record keeping system. How will you keep track of your homeschool progress and store all those records?
I use the forms in my Homeschool Planner Printable Complete Pack to keep track of our homeschool progress. My Homeschool High School Forms Pack also provides helpful forms for the high school years. You can also snag this free high school transcript template to help with record keeping!
I store all the current year’s forms in my Homeschool Mom Binder. At the end of the school year, I transfer these records into my record keeping system. You can also scan and store your records digitally to save space.
Digital Homeschool Planner
Do you prefer a digital planner that already has lesson plans scheduled for many popular homeschool curricula? Then check out the Homeschool Planet! It’s an easy, flexible, full-featured online homeschool planner that makes lesson planning simple.

The Homeschool Hub was created by BJU Press to work alongside their homeschool curriculum but it gives you the option of creating your own lesson plans if you are using other curriculum. Learn more about the Homeschool Hub and see if it would be a good fit for your family!
