When we started homeschooling, I envisioned my family taking frequent field trips, extended vacations across the United States, and exploring local wildlife areas on a regular basis. Many of my homeschool friends were able to create these special experiences for their kids. However, I found myself struggling with pregnancy sickness, being homebound after difficult pregnancies, and exhausted just by the thought of rounding up my crew and leaving the house. My dream of having regular homeschool adventures never came to fruition and I began to think that I was letting my kids down.

Virtual Field Trips for an Exhausted Mom
But homeschooling does not fit into a one-size-fits-all model of education. Homeschooling is about thinking outside the box and creating learning opportunities for your children with the time, energy, and resources that you have available to your family. And that’s where virtual field trips fit in for my family.
We many not be able to travel the U.S. to see all the historical sites or museums but we can view them online! And we love virtual field trips related to science and how things are made.
My favorite thing about virtual field trips is that we can “visit” places that we are learning about in our homeschool lessons. There is a new resource for homeschool families called Homeschool History. It allows me to find “destinations” to visit online that are related to the topics we are studying in history.
Homeschool History was created by Notgrass History. While any family can utilize this resource, those using Notgrass History curriculum will find that searching for online field trips and additional supplemental resources is as simple as clicking on the specific lesson you are on!
