I try to stay away from social media on the weekends to focus on my family, rest, and worshipping the Lord with my brothers and sisters-in-Christ on Sunday. Today (Monday), I needed to get my house in order (take care of my kids and home), catch up with a dear friend, and spend some extended time in God’s Word before taking time to share my thoughts on the attempted assassination of former President Trump.
Reading the headlines each day is a constant reminder that our world is full of evil. Saturday’s headline was yet another reminder of the depravity of man and our need for a Savior. I am thankful that President Trump is still alive. I am praying for him and his family, for the family of the man who died at the rally and for those injured, for President Biden, for the upcoming election, for our nation, for our political leaders and, more than anything, I am praying for people to turn to Christ. He alone is the answer.
It is easy to feel helpless in times like these but there are things we can do as believers and especially as moms.
We can pray.
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions” (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
We can trust God.
Jerry Bridges says that, “the Scriptures teach us three essential truths about God – truths we must believe if we are to trust Him in adversity. They are: God is completely sovereign. God is infinite in wisdom. God is perfect in love.” As we read our Bibles, we learn more about who God is and what He has done. And the more we know God, the more we trust Him.
Moms, when the chaos of our world seems unbearable, grab your Bible, read your Bible, and grow in your love and trust of the Lord.
God is sovereign over all things. Trust Him. Psalm 46 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea… He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’”
We can prepare our children.
This is not the time to feel defeated or hopeless. As moms, we have a great task before us to prepare our children for such a time as this. Pray for your kids and with your kids. Read God’s Word with your kids. Discuss the events and issues of our time from a biblical worldview. Prepare them to be men and women who will be a light to our dark world. (Matthew 5:13-16)
We can share the gospel.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28: 19-20)
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16)
“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:14-15)
